A Dhaka court on Monday imposed a travel ban on former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque and seven others following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sabbir Faiz.
ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya had filed the petition seeking restrictions on their departure from the country.
The seven others named in the order are former Rajuk chairman Md Nurul Huda, RAJUK members (Finance & Estate) AIM Golam Kibria, Md Abu Bakkar Sikder, member (Planning) Md Anwarul Islam Sikder, member (Estate) Akhtar Hossain Bhuiyan, former Joint Secretary and member (Development) M Mahbubul Alam, and member (Administration & Land) Nazmul Hai.
The travel ban comes in connection with an ACC case filed on 6 August last year. The case alleges that Khairul Haque secured a 10-kathar plot by providing false information and violated the allocation terms to misuse his authority.
It is alleged that, with direct support from RAJUK officials, he bypassed rules regarding interest waiver and, five years after the allocation, paid the instalments interest-free, contrary to regulations.
This resulted in government loss, including non-payment of Tk4.74 lakh in interest, constituting a punishable offence, the ACC claims.
