The court has barred former Metropolitan Sessions Judge public prosecutor (PP) Md Abdullah Abu, his wife Monwara Begum, and their two children, Kazi Ahsan Ullah Shibli and Kazi Amreen Sultana, from leaving the country.
The order was issued on Monday by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sabbir Faiz following a request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Assistant Director Nilkamal Pal filed the application.
Court sources, including Assistant Riaz Hossain, confirmed the development.
According to the ACC, Abdullah Abu is under investigation for allegedly exploiting his position in collusion with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court and Sessions Court judges to grant bail, acquittals, sentence reductions, and exemptions to gold traders, drug traffickers, and other VIP defendants.
He is also accused of amassing vast sums of money, transferring funds abroad, and accumulating unexplained assets in his and his family members’ names.
Reliable sources indicated that Abdullah Abu and others could attempt to flee the country.
The court granted the travel ban to ensure a proper and uninterrupted investigation.
