Special Response Battalion-15 (SRB-15) has arrested two members of a human trafficking ring on charges of abducting a teenager under lure of employment and attempting to traffic him to Malaysia.
The arrests were made on Sunday during an operation carried out in Nurar Deil area of Jaliapalong Union under Ukhia Upazila.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Ashek, 19, from Inani area under Jaliapalong Union in Ukhia, and Md Imran Uddin, 20.
The matter was confirmed on Monday evening by AM Faruk, assistant superintendent of Police and assistant director (Law and Media) of SRB-15.
According to the official, on the afternoon of 27 February, Md Maimun Uddin, 14, from Monkhali area in Ukhia left home to offer Jummah prayers.
At that time, members of the human trafficking ring abducted him under the lure of employment and kept him confined in an undisclosed location.
Later, members of the gang demanded ransom from the teenager’s family. They threatened to kill the teenager if the money was not paid and to throw him into the sea if the matter was reported to the administration.
Following secret information and with the help of information technology, an operational team from Whykong Camp of SRB-15 conducted a raid and arrested the two suspects.
“During primary interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed to abducting teenager Maimun Uddin for human trafficking and demanding ransom,” said ASP AM Faruk.
He added that legal proceedings against the arrested accused are currently underway, and SRB-15’s intelligence surveillance and operations are continuing to bring other members involved in the human trafficking and abduction ring under the law.
