A gold trader was shot and at least 25 bhori of gold ornaments were looted in Dhaka’s Keraniganj on Monday evening.
The robbery occurred around 6:30pm when assailants on three motorcycles stopped a CNG auto‑rickshaw near Hazratpur Bazaar.
The injured businessman is Antor Sarker, 28. His father, Nitai Sarker, said their family runs Ritu Jewellers in Hazratpur Bazaar.
Antor, his father, and cousin Rajib, 25, work at the shop. After closing the store, the three were returning home by auto‑rickshaw when the assailants intercepted them.
The attackers fired at Antor, hitting his right leg, and detonated several crude bombs. Rajib was injured by splinters. They then snatched a tiffin carrier from Antor’s hands containing 25–30 bhori of gold ornaments. The family regularly transported jewellery in such carriers.
Both injured men were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in charge of the DMCH police camp.
The incident has been reported to the local police station, he added.
