Shah Ali Police Station Officer‑in‑charge Jahangir Alam has been withdrawn following allegations of police involvement in the attack, vandalism and looting at the Radda MCH‑FP Centre in Mirpur‑1, Dhaka.
The withdrawal was confirmed in an order signed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed.
DMP said questions had arisen over the role of police in the attack, prompting the formation of a three‑member inquiry committee.
The committee submitted its report on Saturday night, after which the OC was withdrawn.
OC Jahangir has been attached to the Central Reserve Office at the DMP headquarters, said the order, which will take immediate effect.
Around 12:05am on Friday, more than 250 people, with red cloths tied around their heads and wearing masks, stormed the Radda MCH‑FP Centre armed with local weapons.
They held two security guards hostage, looted valuable medical equipment, medicines, vaccines, refrigerators, air conditioners and cash, and vandalised the facility. The institution claimed losses of around Tk1.5 crore.
According to the institution’s case, the attackers took government EPI vaccines, official vaccination registers and records, family planning equipment and supplies, medicines and vaccines, about Tk11.40 lakh in cash, an ultrasound machine worth Tk45 lakh, a generator, three refrigerators, three air conditioners, CCTV cameras, three steel cabinets, five steel file cabinets, laboratory equipment and reagents, two televisions, two computers, two laptops, two printers, as well as chairs, tables and other furniture.
