A Dhaka court has ordered the blocking of six credit cards belonging to former Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and his wife Afrin Taposh.
Each holds three cards at Modhumoti Bank PLC.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz issued the order Monday following two separate applications filed by the Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC).
Court bench assistant Riaz Hossain said ACC Assistant Director and investigation officer Md Ferdous Rahman submitted the applications.
The application against Taposh stated that while serving as an MP and DSCC mayor, he abused power and engaged in corruption, dishonestly acquiring assets worth Tk73,19,67,037 inconsistent with his known sources of income.
ACC filed the case, now under investigation, after detecting suspicious transactions totaling Tk5,39,16,25,278 and $5,17,527 across 27 bank accounts in his name.
Regarding his wife, the application said she and her husband jointly acquired assets worth Tk6,40,89,098 inconsistent with their known sources of income.
ACC initiated the case after identifying suspicious transactions of Tk70,89,93,669 and $3,95,963 across nine bank accounts.
