Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard recovered 270 sacks of cement and 50 sacks of urea fertiliser worth nearly Tk2 lakh from a boat attempting to smuggle the consignment to Myanmar.
Lt Commander Siam-ul-Haq, media officer of the Coast Guard, said a team from the Cox’s Bazar station conducted the operation near Laboni Beach around 2am on Monday.
No arrests were made as the suspected smugglers managed to flee, the official added.
The seized goods and the boat were handed over to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station for legal action.
The Coast Guard will continue such operations to prevent smuggling and illicit trading.
