Police have arrested four men along with a foreign-made pistol, live ammunition, and a magazine in the capital’s Dakshinkhan area.

The arrestees have been identified as Saju Majumder ,28, Antar Rahman Onu ,22, Parvez ,22, and Babu Sentu ,25.

Confirming the arrests on Wednesday, Dakshinkhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Faimuddin said that the operation was conducted in the South Azampur area at around 6am.

According to police, a group of men blocked the path of a 28-year-old man named Shahin on an under-construction road at Muktijoddha Road in Azampur under Dakshinkhan Police Station on Friday to demand extortion money.

When Shahin refused to pay, the perpetrators assaulted him and shot at him with the intention to kill before fleeing. A case was subsequently filed with Dakshinkhan Police Station regarding the incident.

During the investigation, police analysed CCTV footage to identify the accused named in the case. Later, with the assistance of information technology, police conducted drives in Bhaluka of Mymensingh and Islampur of Jamalpur, leading to the arrests of Saju Majumder, Antar Rahman Onu, and Parvez.

Police said that during interrogation, the arrestees provided information regarding the firearm used in the crime. Based on their statement, a drive was carried out on the fourth floor of a four-storey building in South Azampur.

Police further revealed that a black cross-body bag was recovered from the bedroom of Babu Sentu, who is a tenant of a flat in that building. One foreign pistol, two live bullets, and one magazine were seized from inside the bag.
