Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Monday affirmed the Election Commission’s (EC) steadfast confidence and dedication to conducting a free, fair, and neutral general election.
He made this declaration after inspecting the appeal centre established within the Agargaon EC building. This temporary facility is receiving appeals against the decisions of Returning Officers (RO) regarding the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers.
During his visit, Nasir Uddin personally observed the 11 booths operational for the appeal process, examining the on-ground arrangements. Expressing contentment with the EC’s preparatory measures, he stated to the media, “As you can see, we are trying to give our best.”
Answering queries from journalists, he conveyed a hopeful outlook, suggesting any potential complications would be addressed in due course.
Nasir Uddin further elaborated, “We are confident about holding a free, fair and neutral election. Insha Allah, with the combined efforts and cooperation of all, the EC believes this will be possible.”
The window for submitting appeals to the EC against RO’s rulings on nomination papers for the 13th national election commenced at 10am. Candidates or their authorised representatives can lodge appeals at ten specified booths inside EC, adhering to all stipulated guidelines.
A central booth has also been set up to address any inquiries or provide related information concerning the appeal procedure.
According to the EC schedule, appeals will be accepted daily from 10am to 5pm, starting on Monday until 9 January.
This development follows EC’s announcement on Sunday, which confirmed the validity of 1,842 nomination papers and the rejection of 723 others across all 300 parliamentary constituencies for the election.
