Chai Ang Prue Marma, the headmaster of Naidari Para Government Primary School in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban, was abducted by a six-member armed group on Wednesday.

According to eyewitnesses, at around 12pm, the six-member armed group arrived in an engine-driven boat and abducted the headmaster from a tea shop adjacent to the school. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Thanchi Police Station Kanan Sarkar confirmed the incident.

An assistant teacher at the school, U Nu Thowai Prue said he and the headmaster were drinking tea together at the nearby small shop when the incident occurred. He explained that the armed group had initially entered the school premises.

Finding him absent, they approached the tea shop, verified Chai Ang Prue’s identity, and took him away at gunpoint. The perpetrators forced him onto their engine-driven boat and took him towards an unknown destination.

Before leaving, they snatched U Nu Thowai Prue’s mobile phone. Assistant teachers and students of the school witnessed the entire incident.

However, U Nu Thowai Prue said he could not determine which armed group was responsible or the motive behind the abduction.

According to family sources, the abducted headmaster spoke to his wife on a mobile phone one hour after the abduction.

Meanwhile, Thanchi Police Station OC said army and police personnel have visited the scene, and efforts are currently underway to rescue the headmaster.
