Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has fined a Motijheel filling station Tk4 lakh after inspectors found two fuel dispensers supplying customers with less petrol and diesel than they paid for.
A mobile court inspected five dispensing units at Pubali Filling Station in Motijheel on Monday and found shortages in one petrol and one diesel dispenser, BSTI said.
The petrol dispenser supplied 460 millilitres less for every 10 litres, while the diesel unit was short by 100 millilitres for every 10 litres.
The filling station was also found to have obstructed the inspection, according to BSTI.
The mobile court fined the station Tk4 lakh under the Standards of Weights and Measures Act, 2018 and shut the two dispensing units.
BSTI Executive Magistrate Lutfunnessa Khanam led the operation with support from the Armed Police Battalion.
BSTI Field Officer for Certification Marks Md Tareq Rahman and Metrology Examiner Shikhon Saha acted as prosecutors during the drive.
BSTI said such enforcement operations would continue in the public interest.
