One day before the start of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season, Triangle Services Group relinquished ownership of Chattogram Royals, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) taking over the team’s management.
Under the new management, Chattogram Royals have performed strongly from the outset. In the Sylhet leg, they won five of seven matches, securing a place in the playoffs. With 14 points, they currently sit second on the points table. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Rossington had been in fine form, scoring 258 runs in six matches before a finger injury ruled him out of the remainder of the tournament.
Team director Habibul Bashar Sumon confirmed that the Royals are now searching for a replacement. “Rossington’s batting was central to our line-up, and Naim Sheikh was particularly comfortable batting alongside him. Losing him is a significant setback, but we aren’t dwelling on it we have no choice but to bring in another player,” he said.
Discussions are underway with several international cricketers. “We approached big names like Tom Latham and Phil Salt, but they aren’t available at this stage. Currently, we are in talks with Mohammad Haris, Pakistan’s opening batsman and wicketkeeper. Talks are progressing well, and he is likely to join us,” Bashar added.
Bashar also reassured that players would have no concerns over payments. “We are satisfied as the BCB is handling all payments for Chattogram Royals. While franchise payments are straightforward via cheque, BCB transactions involve banking processes and documentation. Cash payment isn’t possible, so it takes some time, but the players know their salaries are guaranteed,” he explained.
