The Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, has conveyed his condolences over the death of former prime minister Khaleda Zia through a written message delivered to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
On Monday afternoon, the Chief Adviser’s Personal Secretary Sajib M Khairul Islam and Assistant Press Secretary Nayem Ali handed over the condolence message to Tarique Rahman at the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia’s funeral prayers were held on Wednesday at around 3pm at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, led by its khatib Abdul Malek.
Later that afternoon, at 4:45pm, she was laid to rest with state honours beside the grave of her late husband, former president Ziaur Rahman, at Zia Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Khaleda Zia died at Evercare Hospital in the capital at 6 am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment.
She had been admitted to the hospital on 23 November with breathing difficulties caused by a lung infection. Her condition later worsened as she developed pneumonia, along with complications related to long-standing kidney, liver, arthritis and diabetes conditions.
Doctors moved her to the intensive care unit after her health deteriorated. She remained in the ICU until her death.
