The investigation report for the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi has not been submitted for the 123rd time, resulting in another date postponement. The court has set 9 February as the next date to submit the investigation report of the high-profile murder case.
The submission of the investigation report had been scheduled for Monday. However, although the investigating officer and Additional SP of PBI, Md Azizul Haque, appeared in court, he was unable to submit the report.
As such, Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, Mahbub Alam, set a new date for the report submission.
Previously, on the night of 11 February 2012, Sagar Sarowar, news editor of Maasranga Television, and Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were brutally murdered in their house in West Rajabazar, Dhaka. Their mutilated bodies were recovered the following morning.
Regarding this incident, Runi’s brother, Nowsher Alam Roman, filed a murder case at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.
In the case, eight individuals, including Runi’s friend Tanvir Rahman, were made accused. The other accused are: The house security guard Enam Ahmed alias Humayun Kabir, Rafiqul Islam, Bakul Mia, Mintu alias Bargira Mintu alias Masum Mintu, Kamrul Hasan Arun, Palash Rudra Pal, and Abu Saeed.
Initially, an officer-in-charge (SI) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station was the investigating officer of the case. After four days, the investigation of this sensational murder case was transferred to the DB. After investigating for over two months, DB failed to find an answer to the mystery.
Later, on the High Court’s directive, the investigation of the murder case was transferred to RAB on 18 April 2012. On 30 September, the High Court ordered the formation of a high-powered task force comprising experienced investigation officers from various forces to investigate the case regarding the murder of the couple Sagar and Runi.
Subsequently, on 18 October, the Home Ministry issued a notification forming a four-member high-level task force committee with the PBI chief as convener. The committee was asked to complete the investigation within six months. However, the task force has still not been able to submit the investigation report.
