Border Security Force (BSF) returned the body of Sobuj Islam around 9pm on Thursday. He was killed in firing by the BSF at the Patgram border in Lalmonirhat.
Members of the local BOP camp of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Patgram Police, and relatives of the deceased were present.
According to BGB and local sources, several youths, including Sobuj Islam, entered the zero line near pillar number 864/5 of the main border in Shamshernagar early Thursday morning to bring Indian cattle.
At that time, a team of the 156 BSF Battalion from the Chenakata camp fired several rounds targeting them. Sobuj died on the spot. While the others managed to flee, the BSF took away his body.
Following the incident, a flag meeting was held between BGB and BSF. As per the decision of the meeting, the body was returned to Bangladesh the same night.
The deceased, Sobuj Islam, was the son of Sirajul Islam from Ponchabhandar village in Patgram upazila. Patgram Police Station has confirmed the handover of the body.
