The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) players’ auction has been postponed to November 21, according to sources. The auction was initially set for November 17, but the BPL Governing Council shifted the date due to a scheduling conflict with Bangladesh’s Dhaka Test. To avoid overlap, the auction will now begin at 3 PM on November 21.
The BPL is set to return in December-January for its 12th edition, marking the first time in years that players will be recruited through an open auction rather than the traditional players’ draft. The change is aimed at making the signing process more transparent and engaging.
Bangladesh are currently hosting Ireland in a two-match Test series, with the second and final Test starting on November 19 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The proximity of the Test match prompted the adjustment to the auction schedule.
Under the new auction format, local players will have a maximum base price of BDT 50 lakh, while overseas players will start at USD 35,000. Franchises will bid openly for players, and the highest bidder will secure the signing.
The BPL Players’ Auction will take place at a hotel in Dhaka, where all five franchises are expected to finalise their squads for the 2026 season.
