Claiming that both domestic and foreign forces are conspiring against the establishment of democracy, Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain has called on citizens to take to the streets in a show of unity.
The BNP Standing Committee member made the appeal during a rally held in front of the National Press Club on Thursday afternoon.
“A conspiracy is underway against the establishment of democracy in our country, involving both domestic and foreign elements,” Zahid Hossein said. “We must strengthen our unity and, together, confront any and all plots whether against the nation, its independence, or democracy itself. Today, we take a pledge to stand united in this struggle.”
He also urged leaders of the 12-party alliance to continue their support. “You have stood with us in past movements to restore democracy and continue to do so. Insha’Allah, we expect you to remain alongside Tarique Rahman in the ongoing mission to build the Bangladesh of the future.”
The rally, organised by the 12-party alliance, was held under the banner: “Stop the Restoration of Awami Fascism and the Conspiracy to Thwart Elections.”
Speaking about the vision for the country, Zahid Hossein said, “What kind of Bangladesh do we want for the future? How will the health system function? What will be the state of law and order? How will agriculture and public administration operate?
Most importantly, how will people meet their basic needs food, clothing, and shelter? All these issues have been addressed in the 31-point programme announced jointly by all pro-democracy political parties, including BNP.
This is the blueprint for the future of Bangladesh, showing how a government will operate inclusively, earn the people’s trust, uphold good governance, enforce the rule of law, and ensure that the innocent are not punished while criminals face justice.”
At the assembly, top leaders of the 12-party coalition, including Mostafa Jamal Haider, Shahadat Hossain Selim, Syed Ehsanul Huda, and Mufti Golam Mohiuddin Ekram, also delivered speeches.
