BNP chairperson’s adviser and former chief whip Zainul Abdin Farroque has asserted that there is no sense of despair within the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), nor has there ever been.
Speaking at a discussion titled “Public Expectations Regarding the Upcoming National Election with Participation of Anti-Fascist Political Parties”, held at the Maulana Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club on Thursday morning, Farroque said, “Victory and defeat are part of the democratic process, but there is no space for hopelessness in BNP.
“Our movement will continue to establish the people’s rights.”
He also raised questions about the results of the recently held DUCSU election, stating, “It is not realistic for any candidate to receive zero votes. Such results create doubt in the public’s mind.”
However, he clarified that DUCSU is not a national election and added, “I don’t believe this will have any impact on national politics.”
Recalling the legacy of democratic movements led by the late President Ziaur Rahman, Begum Khaleda Zia, and Tarique Rahman, Farroque emphasized, “There is no secure future for the country without fair elections. The people will bring BNP back to power through their vote.”
Also speaking at the event, BNP’s Central Executive Committee’s Religious Affairs Secretary Rafiqul Islam Jamal said, “The expectations of the people of Bangladesh have been repeatedly crushed. This time, we must unite to ensure that every voter can cast their own vote in the 2026 election.”
He added, “Our leader Tarique Rahman has outlined 31 points. If we can implement those, the dreams of the Liberation War and democracy will be realised.”
Others present at the discussion included MA Azad Chayon, Vice President of Aparajeyo Bangladesh; ABM Mosharraf Hossain, BNP’s Training Affairs Secretary; and Executive Committee member Rahima Shikder.
