BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that practising and embodying the teachings of Gautama Buddha in life can help build a society based on peace, harmony, and brotherhood.
He made these remarks while speaking at a programme organised on the occasion of Probarona Purnima at Basabo in the capital on Sunday evening.
Rizvi stated that the teachings of Gautama Buddha are not restricted to any specific religious community, but are intended for the welfare of all humanity.
He noted that through the practice and exercise of his teachings, individuals can become pure and humane, fostering mutual sincerity and brotherhood to build a peaceful society.
Referring to Gautama Buddha’s message “Atta Dipa Bhava” (“Be a light unto yourself”), Rizvi said that to walk in the light of one’s inner self, one must purify the heart. He added that people can recognise the right path through inner purity, noting that Islam also speaks of walking on ‘Sirat al-Mustaqim’, or the straight and right path.
Rizvi further stressed that marginalised and neglected members of society should also be embraced. He remarked that no one should be hated or kept at a distance forever because of past mistakes, as people need the opportunity to change.
Finally, he expressed hope that the festival of Probarona Purnima would spread joy, peace, and harmony among everyone.
