Rumeen Farhana, who is elected from Brahmanbaria-2, said the victory she secured in the election belongs not only to her but also to her supporters and voters.

She added that even the negative remarks made by some leaders of the BNP played a role in her win.

Speaking to reporters on Friday at her residence in Shahbazpur area of Sarail upazila, Rumeen said the electorate used the ballot box to respond to what she described as “injustice, wrongdoing and ingratitude” by those who opposed her.

She said the BNP tried to defeat her with all its strength, not only by fielding rival candidates but also by launching a broader campaign against her.

“They believed I was only Rumeen Farhana because I once supported the BNP,” she said. “They fought against me as if I were their rival. But the people rejected their tactics.”

Rumeen expressed gratitude to the BNP leaders who made derogatory comments against her during the campaign, saying their behaviour increased her winning margin.

“If they had not acted that way, I would not have won by such a large margin,” she said.

She also said she is indebted to every supporter and voter who backed her and vowed to work devotedly for the development of her constituency.

Following the announcement of her victory, supporters and well-wishers gathered at her residence in large numbers, celebrating the win from early morning.
