Independent candidate for Brahmanbaria-2 constituency Rumeen Farhana has filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Sarail accusing him of biased behavior in the upcoming election.
Rumeen ‘s complaint, submitted on Thursday, alleges that the UNO has displayed partiality in his official duties, particularly with regard to electoral irregularities in her constituency. The complaint further claims that despite several attempts to bring these violations to the UNO’s attention, his responses were uncooperative and dismissive.
In her letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, Rumeen expressed concerns that the UNO’s actions could hinder the conduct of free and fair elections in Sarail.
She also referenced an ongoing complaint against the UNO at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), urging the EC to act swiftly and decisively.
Later that evening, during an election rally in Kalishimul village, Pakshimul Union, Rumin Farhana delivered a strong warning to the police and local administration.
“We want a neutral and non-partisan government,” she said. “I urge the police and administration to remain impartial and refrain from showing favoritism. We do not want a repeat of the past, as seen under Hasina’s regime.”
Rumeen Farhana also spoke directly to public servants, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and respect. She emphasized that their salaries come from taxpayer money and their duty is to address citizens’ issues respectfully and according to the law.
The expelled BNP member said that the people demonstrated their power on 5 August, 2024. Do not go against the will of the people or attempt to unfairly remove their chosen representatives. If anyone tries, the people of my area will respond decisively.
