The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has strengthened security measures and intensified intelligence surveillance along the Dinajpur and Thakurgaon border areas to prevent possible illegal infiltration and alleged push-in attempts.
The precautionary steps were taken following recent reports in regional media and allegations regarding attempts to push undocumented individuals into Bangladesh through border points.
The Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB) has undertaken special preparations as part of enhanced border management.
Additional patrols have been deployed day and night after identifying vulnerable border points and river routes.
Temporary checkpoints have been set up in sensitive areas, while surveillance is being conducted using night vision goggles, drones and binoculars.
BGB has also stepped up intelligence operations to identify organised smuggling networks and individuals facilitating illegal crossings.
As part of its strategy, the force is engaging local communities through awareness meetings, public announcements and outreach programmes.
In addition, small community-based alert groups have been formed to quickly report any suspicious activity or infiltration attempts to law enforcement agencies.
Authorities are also using whistles and torchlights at night to monitor and discourage unauthorised movement near border areas.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin Hasan, commanding officer of the 42 BGB Battalion, said the force remains on high alert to prevent illegal push-ins and infiltration.
He said regular awareness meetings are being held with border residents to strengthen cooperation.
“Our personnel are fully prepared to respond to any situation. Local residents are being urged to immediately inform BGB of any suspicious activity,” he added.
He further said that BGB’s coordinated surveillance operations will continue to safeguard national sovereignty and combat drug smuggling, arms trafficking and other cross-border crimes.
