After being closed for nearly two days, electricity generation has resumed at Unit‑1 of the Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Parbatipur, Dinajpur.
The unit was shut down at 5:50am on Saturday following a mechanical fault. After necessary repairs, it was restarted later Sunday night.
Chief Engineer Abu Bakar Siddique of the Barapukuria plant confirmed the development.
Plant sources said that before the shutdown, Unit‑1 was supplying 50 to 55 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
During this period, Unit‑3 remained operational, producing about 175 megawatts out of its 275‑megawatt capacity and supplying it to the grid.
Meanwhile, Unit‑2 of the plant has been out of operation since 2020.
