Acting on a tip-off regarding potential gold smuggling via AirArabia Flight G9 518 arriving from Sharjah, the Preventive Team of Dhaka Customs House set up surveillance at various points of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 6:30am on Thursday.

During the surveillance, a passenger named Arman Uddin Siddique arrived at baggage belt-02 after completing immigration.

Considering him suspicious, the Preventive Team searched the passenger and seized three oval-shaped gold paste items wrapped in white adhesive tape, specially concealed inside his rectum.

The seized gold items weigh 1,290 grams with a purity of 24 carats. According to a goldsmith’s attestation, refining the oval gold paste is expected to yield approximately 1,000 grams of gold.

The estimated market value of the seized goods is Tk1.74 crore.

Proceedings by the Preventive Team of Dhaka Customs House to file a criminal case against the passenger are currently under way.
