The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Thursday fixed 12 October for the next testimony in the case against 28 people, including former Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, over alleged shootings and attacks on protesters in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur during the July mass uprising.
The tribunal passed the order following a prosecution petition. Prosecutor Shahidul Islam Sardar sought time on behalf of the prosecution.
Four of the 28 accused are currently in custody.
They are former Ansar member Mohammad Omar Faruk, Mohammadpur thana unit Chhatra League president Naimul Hasan Rusel, former vice-president of the thana unit Md Sazzad Hossain, and Jubo League activist KM Fazle Rabbi.
The other accused are absconding.
Among them are former textiles and jute minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former police commissioner Habibur Rahman, former additional deputy inspector general of Police Headquarters Proloy Kumar Joardar, former DMP joint commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarker, and former additional deputy commissioner of the Mohammadpur zone Roushanul Haque Saikat.
According to the case documents, attacks on protesters and killings took place in Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur on 18 July 2024.
The case alleges that Farhan Faiyaz, Md Mahin Mia and Md Rony were killed during the incidents that day.
It further alleges that Al Shahriar Hossain, Md Raju Ahmed, Mahamudur Rahman Saikat, Md Ismail, Md Jasim Uddin and Zobayed Hossain Emon were killed the following day, July 19.
