Unidentified snatchers riding 10 to 12 motorcycles opened fire on a private car carrying employees of a bKash agent establishment, Bhaluka Channel Enterprise, and looted money in the Kornopur area of Sreepur, Gazipur, on Friday evening.
The incident took place at around 6:30pm on the Sreepur-Gosinga regional road near the Kornopur Gajari forest.
Accounts Manager Himel sustained gunshot wounds in the attack, while driver Lal Mia and Area Manager Farhad were injured during a scuffle with the muggers.
According to driver Lal Mia, they had departed from Narsingdi in the private car carrying Tk4 crore packed in three plastic sacks. Upon reaching the Gajari forest area in Kornopur, 10 to 12 unidentified snatchers on motorcycles intercepted their vehicle and opened fire, shooting Himel.
The muggers then snatched two sacks of money from the car, whilst Lal Mia and the other two employees were injured during the struggle.
Following the attack, bullet-injured Himel was initially taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.
Dr Anik Sarkar, an emergency department physician at Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, stated that Himel was provided with primary medical care before being transferred to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for advanced treatment.
Upon receiving news of the shooting and money snatching, police arrived at the scene. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station Mohammad Shahinur Alam confirmed that necessary legal proceedings regarding the incident are currently under way.
