Seventeen years after releasing ‘Tragedy Pilkhana’, singer Asif Akbar has returned to the song with a new arrangement and a new young voice by his side.
The song, originally released in 2009, featured child singer Porshi alongside Asif. At the time, Porshi was an eighth-grade student.
The new version brings together Asif and Rodoshi Nur Siddiquee, who won the modern song category at the 2025 edition of ‘Notun Kuri’.
Interestingly, Rodoshi is also currently an eighth-grade student.
Written by Rajib Ahmed and composed and originally arranged by Pallab Sanyal, the song has received a fresh musical arrangement from Rajib Hossain. Yamin Elan has directed the music video.
The new version will be released on Asif Akbar’s YouTube channel on 9 October, which also marks Rodoshi’s birthday.
Asif said the song remains a milestone in his career. He originally recorded it as a tribute to the 57 army officers who were killed in the 2009 Pilkhana tragedy and as an expression of grief for their families.
He said the song required a child’s voice at the time, which led to Porshi’s involvement. After 17 years, he felt the song deserved to be revisited.
Asif said he learned about Rodoshi through musician Ehtun Babu and was impressed when he heard her voice.
“I was captivated by Rodoshi’s singing. She has performed the song very well. I believe she will go a long way,” Asif said.
Rodoshi said being chosen for the song feels like a great honour. She expressed gratitude to Ehtun Babu for recommending her and to Asif for giving her the opportunity.
Pallab Sanyal, who teaches Rodoshi, also praised her voice, describing it as rare and promising. He said she could develop into a refined and accomplished singer if she remains committed to music.
Rodoshi recently completed the junior course at Bangladesh Shishu Academy and is also learning music at Chhayanaut. She studies in Class Eight at Holy Cross Girls’ High School.
Her parents, Dr Mohammad Nure Alam Siddiquee and Dr Regina Ahmed, are associated with teaching at the University of Dhaka.
