Dhallywood, television, theatre and OTT platforms are undergoing a period of transition. The industry shows signs of hope alongside serious challenges while the film industry struggled throughout 2025.
Apart from Eid releases, most films failed to attract audiences. The industry also suffered from a shortage of notable films. Producers are now preparing several films for release this year. Proper production and marketing could help the industry recover.
Upcoming films include ‘Soldier’, ‘Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka’ and ‘Bonolota Express’. Other titles include ‘Andhar’, ‘Malik’, ‘Domm’, ‘Roid’ and ‘Rongbazar’. The list also features ‘Dodor Golpo’, ‘Pink’, ‘Tribunal’, ‘Dhakaiya Devdas’ and ‘Secret’. Most films aim for Eid-ul-Fitr releases. Several films will release outside the festive period.
Film Directors’ Association president Shahin Sumon expressed optimism about the new year. He said audiences could grow if films perform well and noted that leading roles now extend beyond Shakib Khan. Other actors are stepping forward with strong films. Shahin Sumon also noted that success beyond Shakib Khan would benefit the industry.
However, the number of cinema halls have declined sharply across the country. Multiplex development has slowed as investors pause projects.
Hall Owners’ Association leaders linked growth to quality commercial films. They said more than ten cineplexes await inauguration this year. Most of those cineplexes are nearing construction completion.
Television remains a multi-crore entertainment industry. Producing big-budget dramas has become increasingly difficult. Television officials blame sponsor hesitation and political uncertainty. Television Actors’ Association secretary Rashed Mamun Apu noted industry stagnation. He expressed hope for recovery after February’s elections.
The music industry released several popular songs in 2025. Attacks on Baul artists and concert cancellations raised concern. Artists want to move beyond these setbacks. Musician Lutfar Hasan predicted a better year ahead. He said many artists have strong songs ready and expressed confidence in positive audience response.
