Veteran Bangladeshi actress Babita has been honoured with the Ananda Mela Lifetime Achievement Award at a special ceremony held on 2 August (3 August, Bangladesh time) at the Church of Scientology in North Hollywood, United States.
Babita travelled to Canada on 24 July to celebrate her birthday with her only son, Anik. After marking the occasion on 30 July, she flew to the United States on 31 July to receive the prestigious honour.
Expressing her gratitude, Babita said, “This is the first time I have received such a significant honour on American soil. I sincerely thank Khan Mohammad Ali for his tremendous efforts, for staying in touch with me throughout the process, and for all his support. I have received many recognitions in Bangladesh, including state honours, but receiving this award in the United States has brought me a different kind of joy.”
Event organiser Khan Mohammad Ali said he was delighted that Babita was able to attend the programme.
“Having Babita Apa with us at this year’s event is a great achievement in itself. We are deeply grateful to her for accepting our invitation. The Ananda Mela family is proud to honour such a legendary actress. I would also like to extend my special thanks to journalist Ovi Moinuddin for his valuable support in making this possible,” he said.
Ali also revealed that popular actress Safa Kabir received a special honour at the event.
The programme featured musical performances by singers Kona and Imran, while celebrity couple Naeem and Nadia also entertained the audience with their performance.
Meanwhile, to celebrate Babita’s birthday, a tribute song titled Our Dream Girl, dedicated to the legendary actress, has been released on The Best Twenty Four YouTube channel.
