Narayanganj’s historic Lovely Cinema Hall in Kachpur is set to be demolished on Friday, marking the end of another traditional cinema venue in Bangladesh.

Located beside the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, near Kachpur Kachabazar and Lovely Bus Stop, the hall was once a popular destination for Bangla film screenings. However, its operations gradually declined, and it had been running irregularly for a long time.

Film director and producer Shahadat Hossain Liton confirmed the decision in a Facebook post, describing the closure as the end of an era.

Liton said there are plans to build a multi-storey commercial complex on the site, with a possible cineplex under the Lovely name. The proposal is still at an early stage, and no construction timeline has been announced.

The hall is located in Sonapur, Kachpur, in Sonargaon upazila. Although its exact year of establishment remains unclear, it has long been a familiar entertainment venue for local residents, with the surrounding area also known as Lovely Cinema Hall intersection.
