After making waves on OTT platforms with his original series ‘Shaaticup’ and ‘Sinpaat’, young filmmaker Mohammad Touqir Islam is back, this time on the big screen, with his upcoming film ‘Delupi’.
‘Shaaticup’, released in 2022 and set in the city of Rajshahi, earned attention from both critics and audiences for its authentic storytelling. In 2024, Touqir followed up with ‘Sinpaat’, further establishing himself as one of the most promising directors of his generation.
Delupi draws its name and inspiration from Deluti Union in Paikgacha upazila of Khulna. The story, described as a work of “fictional reality,” is based on the lives, struggles, and relationships of people from that region.
Touqir says the film is not limited to one locality; it reflects the experiences of people across the country. From filming locations to the cast, everything about the production is local, with the true strength of the film lying in its story.
“I have always wanted to tell stories about real people,” Touqir said. “The film ‘Delupi’ is a continuation of that effort. Every character and every frame reflects real lives and emotions. For me, conveying genuine feelings has always mattered more than big budgets or star names.”
Produced by Footprint Film Production House, the film was officially announced on it’s social media pages on Thursday morning, October 9. According to the director, ‘Delupi’ is expected to hit cinema halls soon
