Ad-din Hospital, where six newborns recently died, has closed the ward and pledged to complete all necessary renovation activities within three months, the hospital’s Director Md Tarikul Islam Mukul announced on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference held at the hospital on Friday, Mukul said the ward where the six children died is currently closed. He promised that all types of renovation work for that ward would be completed within the next three months.
The director emphasised that the hospital authority will properly comply with the decisions issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). He added that the highest priority is being given to ensuring that no harm comes to patients currently undergoing treatment.
The hospital authority plans to appeal the government’s decision within the stipulated timeframe for reconsideration. They expressed hope that, considering the public interest, the hospital will be granted permission to resume its normal operations.
During the press conference, Mukul clarified that services for currently admitted patients will continue, and treatment for those in critical condition will not be halted.
“We must provide service to critical patients. We cannot turn them away. We have always been by the side of our patients, and we still are,” the director said.
In accordance with the DGHS directives, the admission of new patients has been suspended since Thursday. Mukul reiterated that the hospital authority remains respectful of government instructions and policies and will continue to operate as directed by the government.
Necessary coordination regarding other hospital units and services is currently ongoing. However, the specific ward associated with the newborn deaths will remain closed while the renovation work is carried out.
