The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said it found preliminary evidence of embezzlement of crores of taka by showing fake fuel expenses of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) vehicles.
A two-member team led by ACC Assistant Director Ikram Hossain conducted raids at the DSCC headquarters on Sunday, ACC said in a press release.
“During the raid, the team collected all relevant records concerning the allegation, including various bills and vouchers related to transportation, vehicle logbooks, and fuel coupons of the South City Corporation,” said the press release.
The enforcement team also interrogated several officials and employees involved at different levels, the release added.
Due to the movement demanding that BNP leader Ishraque Hossain be handed over the responsibilities of mayor, the activities of Nagar Bhaban remained suspended for 40 days. During that time, many officials of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) did not attend.
Yet, fuel consumption of 14–15 liters per day was allegedly shown for the vehicles allocated to them.
The team found initial evidence that a large amount of money had been withdrawn and embezzled under the guise of fuel expenses through fake bills and vouchers.
ACC officials said the enforcement team will submit a full report to the commission after a detailed review of the documents, along with recommendations for further legal action.
