BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has alleged that a political party wants to confine women at home.

He said, “One of that party’s leaders has clearly disrespected women. Yet, the wife of our Prophet, Bibi Khadija, was a working woman and a successful businessperson.”

The BNP chief made the remarks on Monday while addressing an election rally as the chief guest at Khalishpur Probati School ground in Khulna city, organised by the Khulna Metropolitan and District units of the BNP.

Tarique Rahman said, “A political party claims it wants to establish Islamic rule. But before the election, they are making derogatory comments about women. They are only speaking for their own interests. The country cannot move forward by keeping women behind. A quarter is trying to say that vote counting will take a long time. This is a new conspiracy they have started.”

At the same time, he alleged that falsehoods have been spreading over hacking of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman’s X handle ID.

Without mentioning any names, Tarique said, “We have seen that a leader of a political party clearly stated two days ago that for the women, the mothers and sisters who go out for employment, it is shameful to even utter such a word in front of you. He used a term for our mothers and sisters that is a disgrace for this country.”

He joined the rally around 12:30pm at school ground in Khalishpur. As he stepped onto the stage, leaders, activists, and supporters welcomed him.

Meanwhile, after completing his election campaign in Khulna, Tarique will attend another rally at the Jashore Stadium in the afternoon. This will be his first direct public rally in Jashore.
