On 20 December, acclaimed actress and director Afsana Mimi turned 57. Each year on her birthday, she begins the day at Holy Family Hospital in Eskaton, Dhaka. On that occasion, she quietly distributes gifts to the families of newborn babies, without drawing attention to herself.

She has been doing this in silence for many years. But why?

Afsana Mimi recently shared the story behind this personal tradition on the popular podcast ‘Behind the Fame with RRK’, Season 2, Episode 6. The special episode will broadcast today at 8.00 pm on Maasranga Television and aired on Radio Dinrat 93.6 FM.

In the long-form podcast hosted by Rumman Rashid Khan, Afsana Mimi spoke openly about many lesser-known moments from her life. She also candidly shared the light-hearted story behind her name, revealing that she chose “Mimi” herself simply because she loved eating Mimi Chocolate.

She explained that her childhood name was Juni, chosen to match her elder sister Anni. Her official name is Afsana Karim. Her father used to call her “Mim”, and from that nickname, guided by her own preference, she later chose the name “Mimi”.

Jokingly, she said, “I am probably the only child in the world who finalised her own name.”

Behind the Fame with RRK is produced by ZI Faisal.
