Popular Bangladeshi singer, songwriter and actor Tahsan Khan has shocked fans by announcing his retirement from music after 25 years on stage.
Currently touring Australia to celebrate his 25th year in music, Tahsan has already performed in Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney to packed crowds singing along to his hits. His final show will be in Perth, after which he plans to gradually step away from music.
Tahsan addressed the audience mid-performance, saying, “Many are thinking that this is my last concert. It’s not the last concert, but the last tour. I may steadily wrap up my musical career. It’s only natural. Can I stand on stage like this for the rest of my life? My daughter is growing up. How does it feel to sing ‘Dure Tumi Dariye’ on stage when she is right there in my life?”
The announcement left fans stunned; some were seen wiping away tears. But Tahsan remained resolute.
The first signs came when his verified Facebook and Instagram accounts were suddenly deactivated without explanation. The bigger revelation followed at his Melbourne concert during his ongoing Australian silver jubilee tour.
His announcement has sparked waves of reaction online, with many fans insisting they are not ready to say goodbye. Some even remain hopeful for a comeback after a hiatus.
For Tahsan, the decision reflects changing priorities. He has often said music is rooted in emotion for him, but age, time and fatherhood have reshaped his outlook. “Jumping on stage and singing doesn’t feel as natural as it once did,” he admitted.
Tahsan first rose to fame with his band Black, which debuted with ‘Amar Prithibi’ (2002) and quickly became a landmark in Bangladeshi rock. Later, as a solo artist, he built one of the country’s most devoted fan bases, with songs that defined a generation.
