A pall of grief has fallen over Assam as the world mourns the passing of beloved singer Zubeen Garg. The cause of his death has now been revealed in his death certificate, which cites drowning.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed to Indian media that the death certificate, issued by the Singapore High Commission, listed drowning as the cause. He clarified, however, that this is not the autopsy report.
“These are two different things. We will hand over all documents to the CID. The Assam Chief Secretary has already contacted Singaporean representatives to ensure the autopsy report is received soon,” the CM said.
The state government has said it will await the full autopsy report and has assured that the investigation will continue.
On Sunday morning, Zubeen’s body was brought home in a coffin. In Guwahati, thousands of fans flooded the streets to bid him farewell, many in tears as they paid their last respects to the iconic artist.
