Director Gazi Mahbub, known for the film Premer Tajmahal, has resigned from the executive committee of the Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association, citing alleged irregularities.
He recently submitted a written resignation letter to the association, outlining several reasons for his decision.
Mahbub alleged that the association repeatedly violated Article 7(gh) of its constitution while issuing associate membership forms.
He also claimed that several provisions were not properly followed when granting associate and general membership.
He further alleged that the association failed to present income and expenditure statements at the executive meetings following events, despite a constitutional requirement to do so.
According to him, delays in submitting the accounts of events such as family gatherings and friendly football matches have raised questions about the organisation’s financial transparency and accountability.
Mahbub also claimed that the constitutional procedure was not followed when co-opted executive member Mostafizur Rahman Babu took his oath after a committee post became vacant.
He alleged that some applicants obtained membership by presenting films or dramas directed by others as full-length films, despite not having directed them personally.
As a result, he said, several “fake directors” had been granted membership.
Regarding the association’s 2025–26 election-related legal dispute, Mahbub said the executive committee had not been properly briefed on the matter.
He also claimed that the association failed to provide him with appropriate advice or guidance after director Riaz-ul Rizu served him with a legal notice.
Expressing frustration, Mahbub said, “I have repeatedly raised these irregularities but received no solution. Voter numbers are being increased through irregular means, and people are being granted membership indiscriminately. That is why I was forced to resign.”
The Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association has yet to issue a statement on Mahbub’s allegations.
