Raihan Rafi’s upcoming horror film Andhar has generated excitement among audiences with the release of its first teaser.
Commercial horror films have rarely been made in Bangladesh, which had already created interest in the project.
Over the past month, the director had released glimpses from the film as part of its promotional campaign, prompting discussions on social media.
As announced, the 1-minute-26-second teaser was released at 7pm on Thursday through the YouTube channel of 221B Films.
It quickly drew attention from viewers.
Like several of Rafi’s previous films, the teaser contains no dialogue.
Instead, it relies on background music, character looks and a series of striking visuals, offering little direct information about the plot.
The teaser features key cast members including Afsana Mimi, Gazi Rakayet, Chanchal Chowdhury, Nazifa Tushi, Siam Ahmed and Mostafa Monwar.
It maintains a dark, grey-toned atmosphere throughout and includes brief glimpses of Siam in action sequences.
Many viewers praised the teaser’s visuals, music, dark theme and prosthetic makeup.
One YouTube user wrote that Rafi appeared to be surpassing himself with each new project, while another described the teaser as “just wow”.
The story was written by Shakib Chowdhury of Cryptic Fate and Saidus Salehin Sumon of Artcell, with Adnan Adib Khan also involved in the story development.
The musicians have long been interested in ghost stories and supernatural incidents from different parts of Bangladesh.
The idea for Andhar reportedly grew from stories and experiences they collected while travelling across the country.
According to the director and production company, Andhar is one of the biggest-budget horror projects in Bangladesh.
A substantial portion of the film involves visual effects and graphics animation, which have been worked on for several months at a studio in Mumbai.
Rafi believes the film can help fill the long-standing gap in Bangladesh’s horror genre. Most of the shooting took place in Gazipur and Mymensingh.
Andhar is scheduled to be released in cinemas in October.
