Five more deaths have been reported from dengue in the last 24 hours until Monday morning as Bangladesh faces a surge in infections during the peak season.
With the latest deaths, the total number of dengue-related fatalities this year has reached 155, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Two of the new deaths were recorded in Barishal Division, two in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and one in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
In addition, 636 new patients were hospitalised with viral fever, pushing the total number of dengue cases to 38,527 so far this year.
The DGHS provided the following breakdown of new cases: 131 in Barishal Division (outside city corporation), 92 in Chattogram Division (outside city corporation), 131 in Dhaka Division (outside city corporation), 105 in DNCC, 97 in DSCC, 6 in Mymensingh Division (outside city corporation), 29 in Khulna Division (outside city corporation), 34 in Rajshahi Division (outside city corporation), 7 in Rangpur Division (outside city corporation), and 4 in Sylhet Division (outside city corporation).
Currently, 746 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka, and a total of 1,844 patients are undergoing care at hospitals nationwide.
The report also indicated that 60.2 percent of the patients were men, while 39.8 percent were women.
Last year, dengue resulted in 575 deaths. The DGHS reported 101,214 dengue cases and 100,040 recoveries during the same period.
