Eight more people have died from suspected measles in the 24 hours until 8am on Monday, raising the total number of suspected and confirmed measles-related deaths in Bangladesh to 1,030 since 15 March.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed the figures in its daily health bulletin issued on Monday.
According to the DGHS, 55 people were identified as confirmed measles patients between 8am on 13 September and 8am on 14 September. During the same period, 1,177 people were reported as suspected measles cases.
Of the suspected cases, 1,093 patients were admitted to hospitals while 1,148 were discharged during the 24-hour period.
Since 15 March, the number of suspected measles cases has reached 172,720, while confirmed infections stand at 20,124. A total of 152,117 suspected measles patients have been discharged from hospitals during the period.
The DGHS said 930 deaths have been reported among suspected measles patients and 100 among confirmed cases since 15 March.
In the latest 24-hour period, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions reported four suspected measles deaths each, accounting for all eight fatalities.
Among the divisions, Dhaka reported the highest number of new suspected cases with 424, followed by Chattogram with 278, Sylhet 150, Barishal 131, Khulna 88, Mymensingh 57, Rangpur 26 and Rajshahi 23.
Since 15 March, Dhaka division has recorded 74,120 suspected measles cases and 419 deaths. Chattogram reported 34,078 suspected cases and 70 deaths, while Sylhet recorded 12,958 cases and 161 deaths.
Meanwhile, 19,779,130 doses of measles-rubella vaccine have been administered under the 2026 National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign. The target was 18,015,064 doses, bringing vaccination coverage to 109.8 per cent.
