The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has approved an amendment to the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (Debt Securities) Rules, 2021, clearing the path for the issuance of Sustainable Bonds.

The new categories include Social Bonds, Orange Bonds, Gender Bonds, and Green Bonds.

The decision was confirmed during the 972nd Commission meeting held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, chaired by BSEC Chairman Khondker Rashed Maqsood.

This amendment is a significant move towards diversifying the country’s financial instruments to support sustainable development. BSEC in a statement said on Wednesday that the draft of the proposed changes will be published on its website and in newspapers to gather public feedback.

The move marks an important step in promoting environmentally responsible and socially impactful investment options in the local market.
