Dewald Brevis became the most expensive player in SA20 history on Tuesday, 9th September, after the Pretoria Capitals signed him for R16.5 million.
The 22-year-old was a hot property heading into the auction, especially after a promising stint as a replacement player for Chennai Super Kings during the 2025 Indian Premier League. His performances caught the attention of multiple franchises, sparking a bidding war between Johannesburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals and his former side, MI Cape Town.
Once the bidding crossed the Rand 10 million mark, Pretoria Capitals entered the fray and eventually secured Brevis with the winning bid.
Brevis further boosted his profile last month with a blistering T20I century against Australia, reaching three figures in just 40 balls. It was the second-fastest century by a South African in T20 internationals.
