The Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of the pre-filled ballot incident at TSC has been deleted. A candidate, requesting anonymity, said a returning officer confirmed the matter.
Rupaiya Srestha Tanchangya, a candidate from the Independent Student Unity panel, alleged that a student was handed a ballot paper with boxes for Sadik Kayem and SM Farhad already marked.
Responding to a query, DUCSU Chief Returning Officer Professor Mohammad Josim Uddin at first neither denied nor confirmed that the CCTV footage required to verify the incident had been deleted.
“There are many cameras there, any one of those may have the footage we are looking for,” he said.
He later added that an investigation will also be carried out to see whether the camera was disconnected.
He further said the university proctor has been given responsibility to investigate the matter.
However, Professor Mosaddek Hossain Kamal Tushar, director of the DU ICT Cell, who was present at the Chief Returning Officer’s office at the time, told The Times of Bangladesh that whoever deleted the footage, did so intentionally.
Dhaka University Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed could not be reached on phone for his comments on the matter.
Earlier, the returning officer of the TSC polling centre, Professor Nasreen Sultana, denied that any pre-filled ballot had been given to anyone.
