Ahead of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Hall Union elections, the university administration has issued special instructions for voters.
In a notice signed by Chief Returning Officer Mohammad Jasim Uddin on Sunday, it was informed that voters will be prohibited from carrying bags, mobile phones, smartwatches, any electronic devices, water bottles, and liquid items when entering polling centers. This decision has been made to ensure electoral discipline and security.
Meanwhile, to facilitate students’ voting, the university authorities have decided to operate circular shuttle services on election day. Additionally, for the third time, the number of booths has been increased to 810 across a total of 8 polling centres. Initially, the number of booths was 500, which was later raised to 710.
The 34th DUCSU election of Dhaka University is scheduled to be held on Tuesday. In this election, around 10 panels, both full and partial, are participating, including the “Independent Student Unity” led by Umama Fatema, the “Abid-Hamim-Mayeed Council” supported by Chhatra Dal, the “United Student Alliance” backed by Islami Chhatra Shibir, the “Discrimination-Resistant Student Parliament” supported by the Bangladesh Democratic Student Council, and the “Resistance Panel” supported by the left alliance.
A total of 471 candidates are contesting for 28 positions, among whom 62 are female candidates. The highest number of candidates, 217, are competing for member positions. Additionally, 1,035 candidates are in the race for 13 positions across the university’s 18 halls.
