Bollywood cinematographer Amit Roy has officially joined Abu Hayat Mahmud’s upcoming film ‘Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka’ as its Director of Photography (DOP).

In a report published three weeks ago, TIMES of Bangladesh hinted at the possibility and now the production company has confirmed the signing.

Roy, widely praised for his striking camera work in ‘Animal’, ‘Deba’ and ‘Sarkar’, brings decades of experience to the project. “We have said from the beginning that Prince will be a larger-than-life experience,” said producer Abu Hayat Mahmud. “Amit Roy’s addition strengthens that vision. He will bring visuals to the Bangladeshi audience that no one has seen before.”

Creative Land Films, the production company behind Prince, echoed the sentiment, writing: “Prince is now under the lens of a legend! Bangladeshi cinema is about to witness visuals never seen before.”

Who is Amit Roy?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amit Roy began his career in the late ’90s and early 2000s under the mentorship of legendary filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma. His breakthrough came in 2003, when he improvised a visual effect for Darna Mana Hai using a simple ₹300 filter, impressing directors Sajid Khan and Varma.

Although Varma initially offered him work on a film he produced, Roy boldly insisted on collaborating only on Varma-directed projects. This decision led him to lens Varma’s cult classic Sarkar (2005), starring Amitabh Bachchan. From there, he went on to shoot acclaimed films including ‘Nishabd’, ‘Das Kahaniyaan’, ‘Sarkar Raj’, ‘Dum Maro Dum’, ‘Love Aaj Kal’, ‘Haal-e-Dil’, ‘Shamshera’, ‘Dunki’ and most recently, Animal’.

About Prince
Produced by Shirin Sultana, Prince will feature three heroines. Although the production company has yet to officially reveal the cast, industry buzz points to Tanjin Tisha and Jannatul Ferdous Oishi, with a new face set to make her debut.

The story is written by Mejbah Uddin Suman, with screenplay and dialogues by Suman and Mohammad Nazim Uddin.

The film is slated for release during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
