The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent a letter to the police headquarters requesting that measures be taken to secure an Interpol red alert against ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

According to ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain, the commission sent the letter to police headquarters on Thursday as Hasina and Joy have been implicated in seven cases, including plot forgery in the Purbachal New Town Project.

“In order to bring them back to the country and face trial in the said cases, a letter was sent to the Inspector General of Police to take necessary steps for issuing a red notice,” Akhtar Hossain said.

ACC mentioned that Sheikh Hasina and her son have fled abroad. For the sake of justice, the court has already issued warrants of arrest against them to bring them back to the country, and face the law.

Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy had abused their power to illegally acquire plots. In December 2024, the ACC launched an inquiry into the allocation of those plots, ACC officials said.
