A Dhaka court has placed former law minister Anisul Huq on a four-day remand in connection with the killing of street vendor Md Shahabul Islam Shaon during last year’s July Mass Uprising in Ashulia.
The order was issued by Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Tajul Islam Sohagh on Thursday, after police sought a seven-day remand for interrogation.
According to case documents, Shahabul, a vegetable vendor, was participating in an anti-discrimination student movement on August 4, 2024, when he was shot and killed near Baipail Intersection in the Ashulia area on the outskirts of the capital.
Following the incident, the victim’s brother, Touhidul Miah, filed a murder case at Ashulia Police Station.
