Police on Saturday recovered the bodies of a Saudi Arabia expatriate, his wife, and their 1.5-month-old daughter from a room in Barahi Janna Kandi area under Krishnapur Union in Manikganj Sadar Upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Akram Hossain, 40, his second wife, Priyanka Akhtar, 22, and their 1.5-month-old daughter.
Locals suspect the incident may have stemmed from a family dispute, though the actual cause of death for the three could not be immediately confirmed.
According to local sources, Akram Hossain had been living in Saudi Arabia for a long time and recently returned home.
On Saturday afternoon, family members noticed no response from them and discovered the three bodies inside the room, after which locals informed the police, who arrived at the scene to recover the bodies.
Akram’s relative, Mamunur Rashid, said he received news of Akram’s suicide at around 12:50pm and went to the scene to inform the police.
Rashid speculated that Akram might have attacked his wife and killed the child before committing suicide over a family matter, although he noted he was not certain.
Rashid added that while Akram usually moved around normally on previous visits, he rarely went outside and exhibited unusual behaviour after returning home approximately a week ago.
A local neighbour, Mohammad Abul Hashem, said Akram and his two brothers resided in Saudi Arabia, describing Akram as a good person with no known debts.
Hashem said Akram had worked hard in the country in the past and had no known financial difficulties, adding that neighbours could not understand what led to the tragedy after his return from abroad.
Locals also mentioned that this was the second marriage for both Akram and Priyanka, and there was no confirmed information regarding marital discord in their household.
Monir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, confirmed that police were sent to the scene after receiving information from local residents.
He said inquest reports are being prepared to send the bodies for autopsy and that an investigation is currently underway to determine how the incident occurred.
