A man was caught by police while trying to set fire to a parked bus in Dhaka’s Azimpur area on Sunday.
The suspect, identified as Aminul Islam Shawon, 40, was caught red-handed beneath the Azimpur Metani overbridge under Lalbagh Police Station around 2:15am.
According to Lalbagh police, bus staff and local residents spotted Shawon attempting to set fire to the parked VIP bus and rushed to the spot.
Patrolling police officers arrived at the same time and apprehended him.
During his capture, an agitated crowd beat Shawon, causing injuries to his head and various parts of his body.
He was subsequently sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for necessary medical treatment.
Police said the process of taking legal action is underway.
